I’ve read Journey to the Center of the Earth and Around the World in 80 Days. I can only imagine a journey to the heart of God. Embarking upon an adventure to gain nearness to the Most High God, I take it slow.
The first step is being a doer of the Word, not only a hearer (James 1:22). One step closer to Him each day of the journey is one inch closer to His revealing, not all at once, but bit by bit.
Obedience leads to finding the truth, and having truth revealed to our hearts. Following in His footsteps, right in His shadow, that is obedience. It puts you in a place of nearness to the Father to follow His leading. That is the kind of relationship that I desire with my Father. I want closeness and not broken fellowship because of my own stubbornness or disobedience.
“If you continue to obey my teaching, you are truly my followers. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:31-32). I desire to live free of bondage that weighs you down. I want to live free of fear, depression, worry and other things that entangle us so easily.
“Live in the right way, serve God, have faith, love, patience and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, grabbing hold of the life that continues forever. You were called to have life when you confessed . . .” (1 Tim. 6:11-12). How we need to allow Him to produce these fruits in our lives. We must allow Him to produce in us His character.
As long as I am obedient to what He wants me to do, then I am safe under His umbrella of protection; safe in the shadow of His wings. Under these wings is the place I desire to abide and dwell in Him. That is a place of extreme security, comfort, and love. This is where we find the warmth of a tender beating heart that beats for His children, both the obedient and disobedient.

Enveloped in His Presence
My daughter taught me an important lesson in being obedient this week. I tucked all three of my children snug into bed and then went to my room. I heard someone up in the hallway and went to inspect the noise. Katie, who is ten-years-old, stood in the hallway holding a scorched pillow. “Katie, what are you doing up?” “Mama, I kept feeling that I needed to get up and go into the den for some reason. I hadn’t fallen asleep yet and I kept hearing someone tell me to go into the den,” Katie explained. My two-year-old had placed a throw pillow onto the radiator and I hadn’t seen it. Katie was holding the pillow that was scorched. We were blessed and very thankful for a child who is listened to His prompting. I am thankful that God is developing obedience and His character in my children. What more could a parent ask for? My children teach me something every week, if not every day. If only I could have that heart of a child.
