For instance, just a few days ago I was mowing my lawn with much inner complaining. Life just had not been playing fair with me. It seemed everything that could go wrong was. Strife abounded and relationships were broken. Dreams of prosperity had been given up long past. Where was God anyway?
It seemed as though I was frozen. I no longer prayed as I had. Great effectual prayers that had come so easily before now escaped me. Instead of praising and thanking God, I complained and questioned. I let go of Jesus’ hand and faced the battles of life in my own stead. Fear kept me from moving forward and on. Time stood still as I watched danger and daggers of the enemies coming my way, much like….
The front wheel powered mower effortlessly moved forward at the slight push of my hands. The blades whirled and clamored as they cut down grass and anything in their way. An unseen life sat a few feet away. It was huddled in complete fear. The small life stopped all movement, and it hardly breathed. He did not know how wonderfully he was made with instincts and power to be free and saved. He did not know to look to the God in whose strength he could do all things. Instead, he sat there and watched the whirling blades get closer and closer.
Finally, just in time, his instincts took hold. The strong hind legs that his Creator had given him moved into action. With great force he pushed as hard as he could muster, and with great accurate aim jumped up and to the side, flying into the air just as the mower blades whirled over the spot he had sat.
I watched in surprise at the sight of the baby toad, and marveled at the timing of his deliverance from his enemies, the blades. I had not known he was hidden in the grass. I could not rescue him from his danger. But there was someone who could and did. The ever loving watchful eyes of God, his Creator, had taken guard, and just in time urged the baby toad’s instincts to move past fear to its safety.
In this baby toad’s experience I learned a great lesson. I, as a Christian, should never forget the importance of being earnest in my walk with Jesus. I should never step into fear and never should I question God’s love or loyalty.
Just like I’ve read in the Bible, God cares for the lilies of the fields and the birds in the air, and even more so He loves us. He loves the baby toad. He loves me! He took care of the baby toad, and he will take care of all who follow Jesus.
As I write this, I remember my favorite scripture, Jeremiah 29: 11-13 NKJV, which reads: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."
Isn’t it wonderful how many times and in how many ways that we will find God, if we will just trust in His promises, call on Him, pray to and with Him, seek Him, and search with an earnest heart.
We will find Him through a baby toad’s life saving experience, or through a neighbor’s kindness. He is everywhere and always.
