“Yes, Annie, I’m asking God to see us safely to and from the grocery store.”
“Polly, why do you take such silly things to God in prayer. I think I am able to handle my life without bothering God with trivial things.”
“Annie, I know you think I’m strange, because I take everything to God in prayer, but that is what we’re suppose to do.”
“We are not climbing Mt. Everest, we are only going to the grocery store, and I think I can handle that without bothering God. That is so silly. Darned, Polly, what could possibly happen to us when the store is just 20 miles down back roads in a rural community? Get off your soap box. I’m a darned good driver, and besides I haven’t had any accidents going to the grocery store.”
“I didn’t say you weren’t a good driver. I know you drive safely and follow the rules of the road, but can you vouch for other drivers, or maybe something jumping out in the road in front of you? Annie, we need God’s presence with us always, and if asking God’s help to and from the grocery store is too trivial for you then I’m sorry, but that’s just me. Okay”
“Darned, Polly, don’t get your britches in a twist. The only time I pray is when I can’t fix what is wrong.”
“We read and studied the Bible in college, but when you married you changed. What happened?”
“Well, Charlie believes we are able to handle everything ourselves unless it’s beyond us, and then we take it to God in prayer. He thinks going to church is stupid, because all the people there are hypocrites. We read the Bible once in a blue moon, but for the most part it sits on my desk gathering dust.
This morning I was studying my Bible lesson about prayer. I read these three passages about prayer. They are as follows: Philippians 4:6, ‘Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.’ Ephesians 6:18A, ‘And pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.’ I Thessalonians says, ‘Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’
“I’ve never read those scriptures. You’re pulling my leg and if we prayed continuously we’d be destitute.”
“No I’m not pulling your leg. Annie, why don’t you and Charlie come to church Sunday? I’ll have my husband, Joe, invite Charlie. They are very close, and Charlie will come if Joe invites him. We’ll pick you up Sunday morning at 8:30 on the dot. I think you all might be surprised by our pastor, especially when he stands in front of the congregation and says he knows there are people present who haven’t accepted Christ as their Savior. Not to many pastors do that anymore. After Sunday school and church we’ll take you out to lunch, and we can talk about your experience as long as you like. What do you think about that?”
“If Charlie agrees I don’t see why not. It might be fun. I loved reading and studying the Bible in college. I felt such peace, and I miss that feeling. It would be nice having peace in my life again, and maybe Charlie will find that same peace I had in college. That would be wonderful. Do you think we could possibly find that peace, and learn to take everything to God in prayer, and not feel as if we are bothering God?”
Polly looked at Annie and burst out laughing.
“Oh Annie you aren’t going to believe this, but in Matthew 19:26 Jesus said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’ If God said it and you believe it then it’s a done deal.”
“Annie hugged Polly and whispered. Peace, sweet peace. There hasn’t been peace in my house like I had in college in a very long time. I miss that peace. One day you might look out your window and see me floating on air, and you will know I have found that peace once again.”
Annie and Polly hugged each other tightly.
“Lord, thank you for this opportunity to share Your love.”
“Amen to that Polly. Now lets get this show on the road.”

Dialogue good and although I suspected how it would play out I enjoyed the read.
