She was so young to make such a commitment, but I knew she meant it with all her heart. She'd looked me in the eyes and told me she was willing to die for Jesus if she had to. She just wanted people to know He was true and to taste of His love. I was so proud of her. My little beauty.
“Mommy, do you think Jesus is with us now?” She asked.
“Of course, Aliyah. He's in our hearts,” I replied.
She was quiet. I wondered what she was thinking. “Lord, help us feel your presence,” I asked silently.
Suddenly we heard foot steps. He was coming. My heart began to race. Aliyah looked into my eyes. I managed to smile at her as I held her close. “Am I ready to die,” I asked myself. “Am I ready to see my daughter die.” The thought made my stomach knot. “Oh God, not my precious beauty.” I held her as tight as I could in my arms knowing that it could very well be my last time holding her alive. “Oh God, help me be strong,” I prayed.
“Basilah!” he called out.
I could suddenly hear another's foot steps with his.
“I know they are out here somewhere,” he said.
“Don't worry, we'll find them. Allah will help us,” another man said.
“They were deceived and lied to. I can't believe she'd turn her back on Allah and follow a lie.”
“Yes, these missionaries are bad people. They come to our land and bring their lies that are destroying their own lands. Then our people start going wayward,” the other man said.
“I don't know why I allowed her to get close to that missionary lady,” he said angrily.
“We need to get those people out of our land,” the other man said.
Aliyah looked into my eyes.
“Mommy, they are so wrong,” she whispered.
“I know,” I replied.
“Mommy, we have the truth. We can't hide it,” she declared.
“I know,” I replied
I felt the warmth of the Lord surrounding us.
“God,” I whispered. “We can't hide your truth.”
“Lord Jesus, We are ready to die for you,” prayed Aliyah.
I stood up and Aliyah stood beside me.
“My husband, I am here.” I called out. My fear suddenly disintegrated. I don't know where it went. His strength came upon me.
“Daddy, we are here, but we won't turn our hearts away from Jesus,” Aliyah declared.
My husband came over to us with his rifle in his arm. He looked at us both for a moment, then his friend came and stood beside him.
He slowly lifted his rifle and pointed it at me. “Basilah, Don't make me do this. Renounce this Jesus and turn back to Allah.” I took a deep breath.
“I will not, my Husband. Jesus is Lord. Always remember that I love you, but Jesus loves you more.”
“Daddy, if you kill us, we'll just go to be with Jesus, but if you let us live we'll show you who this Jesus really is.”
“Allah is God and there is no other,” he replied.
We heard the rifle go off. Light! I fell backwards on the ground. The gun went off again and my daughter fell beside me. This is it. But I was not hurt. No pain. I looked at her, she looked at me and we smiled. Phew! God showed up just in the nick of time.
“What was that bright light” the other man called out.
My husband dropped the rifle and fell to His knees.
“I think...I think it was Jesus!... Oh God, forgive me and show me who you are?” he cried.
We knew God had answered our prayers. We thank God for the believers around the world who pray for us. We thank God for the missionaries who sacrifice their lives.
