TITLE: On the Big Yellow School Bus | Previous Challenge Entry

I was in third grade, waiting for the big yellow school bus that took me to that dreaded dark place I never wanted to go. Yet, something was happening every time that big yellow school bus came to pick me up. I'd sit down, heart beating quickly, anticipating what lied ahead of me that day and suddenly, strong thoughts invaded my little world.
“Where will you go if you died today?” something would say. I couldn't shake the thoughts. “Is Jesus in your heart?” “Are you living for God.” “Are you doing what's right in the sight of God.” I had no idea where these thoughts were coming from, but they began to consume me.
Once I got to school, my thoughts went back to normal. However, when I was coming home, it would all start again. As soon as I got on that big yellow school bus, thoughts begin to flood my mind. I'd find myself repenting for lies told and hateful thoughts against those who hurt me. I'd find a longing for God, like my soul just wanted to hop out of my body and be in His arms. I'd hear Him calling my name. I was so consumed with the thoughts that sometimes the bus driver had to interrupt me and tell me ”this is your stop.”
I'd go in the house and begin asking my mother about God. She was happy to answer whatever questions I had. She'd read the Bible with me and my brothers every night and we'd pray before we slept.
Finally, one day, as I sat on the bus listening to those thoughts, I prayed, “Lord Jesus, come into my heart, forgive me of my sins and be Lord and Savior of my life.” For days, I'd pray the same prayer with more intensity then before, both going to school and coming home. My heart was crying out for God, but my insecurity made me feel as if I wasn't good enough and God wasn't really hearing my prayers. So I prayed harder and more seriously each day. Till finally, the day came when I got off that big yellow school bus, ran in the house and went straight to my mother. “Mom, I'm trying to get saved. I keep praying and praying but I don't think God hears me or knows how serious I am.” My mom was a bit shocked that I'd say that at such a young age. She assured me God heard me the first time I prayed. She then led me in the sinner's prayer for salvation, the same one I'd prayed on the school bus, only hers a little more sophisticated then mine. I prayed and finally had the confidence I was saved.
I looked out the window. The Sun was shining bright. My rainy day had come to an end. From that time forward, I've clung to God. He's my lifeline and I love Him with all my heart. He began to change me from the inside out.
In those days, I loved my bus driver. Her name was Sandy. All the kids loved her. She was the Sunlight of our days. She was so happy and friendly. We knew she loved us too. When I left 3rd grade, I never forgot her.
Years later, as a Senior in high school, I got on that bright yellow school bus and noticed Scriptures posted everywhere. Then I saw Sandy and my heart leaped for joy. She was my bus driver again. After finding she was a Christian, I told her of my experience in third grade. She was overjoyed and told me how every morning she prays over every seat on the bus and asks God to convict the hearts of those who sit in them and draw them to Him. I suddenly knew where the thoughts had come from in third grade. On that big yellow school bus, God had answered her prayers and brought His Sunlight into my life.
