An old lady sat against an old abandoned building wrapped in a dirty gray blanket with a wine bottle in her hand gazing sleepily at the streets around her. Two young men, stood on the corner, running up to the cars that would stop near them. People quickly handed them money in exchange for drugs. They looked about 16 or 17 years old. An older dark skinned lady ran down the street with a look of despair. She disappeared into an old rundown town home. An old man with a cane, walked up the street, stopping here and there, just gazing about at the different scenes. Children walked down the streets gossiping loudly as they walked home from school. A store clerk and a lady argued loudly over the price the lady paid and how ridiculous it was. There were so many people, where was she to begin.
She kept walking, praying for all of them. Then Jade saw her, the girl in green. She looked like a young teenager. She wore shiny, green boots that came up to her knees, green, silky looking stockings and a green leather mini-skirt. She had on a short green fur coat, green gloves and a green scarf around her neck. Her bright red lip-stick and black eyeliner seemed to make her look older than she really was. She was a light brown complexion with long, thick ,curly brown hair flying about in the cold winter breeze. The most striking thing about her were her large green eyes, yet those eyes reflected deep frustration or was it anger. Whatever it was, it was something dark. She stood there looking angry at the world.
Jades heartbeat quickened as she looked at the young lady in green. “No, surely not her,” she thought, trying to pull her attention away from the young lady. “I'll pray for her.” She could faintly feel the track that had been in her hand for hours. It seemed as if her hand was frozen around it. But she was determined to share Christ with someone before she went back home.
She'd faced enough rejection through out her life. Why should she still be afraid now that she'd given her life to Christ. This was the day she'd overcome. She'd made up her mind and wasn't about to change it now. Everyday, she felt the Lord, convicting her to share the good news with others. Someone had reached her 2 years earlier. At 17 years old, she was a runaway, wandering the streets, suicidal. She'd walked out into the middle of a busy street, planing to end it all. How all the cars and buses missed her, she'd never know. But she remembered and loved the lady who risked her life, taking her by the hand and guiding her out of that busy street where she had stood for three or four minutes. That very lady took her into her home and cared for her. She was a pastors wife. And their church surrounded her with love and encouragement. They became her family, something she had never had. And now God was calling her to do the same for others.
She took a deep breath and prayed, “Lord, grant me the boldness and wisdom.” Then she slowly walked towards the girl. The girl gave Jade a look of hatred as she approached her. Jade swallowed, heart racing, she wanted to hand the girl the track but her hands froze. She couldn't move. The girl looked at Jade as if she was ready to fight her. Jade remembered that look of pain and anger in her eyes. She'd felt it herself so many times. Without thinking she threw her arms around the girl and began to weep. “Jesus loves you so much,” she repeated again and again as she wept. Startled, the girl in green had first tried to get loose from her grip. Then she gave in to love and began to sob, deep deep sobs of frustration, anger and despair.
That was how Jade met Emerald, the girl in green. Today, they are like sisters, sowing seeds of Christ's love all around that city and watching those seed grow and change lives.
