Topic: Winter (the season) (08/13/09)
White everywhere. Glistening diamond sparkles. Color hidden beneath bountiful expanses of cool, refreshing snow. Ahhhh....winter is here in all its’ intended glory. It dazzles in the sunlight and glimmers the reflection of the moon by nightfall. It clothes the magnificent earth in a robe of never-ending clarity. With it comes renewal and surrender. It brings upon the soul a peace, a change of pace from the frantic fall of whirling leaves and quickly fading greenery. Here I stand smack dab in the middle of winter and I am at complete rest with my spirit.


So it is with our progression of stages in life itself. Spring is beginnings, the baby stages of our souls. We are taken care of and tended to. Then comes summer. Are not all childhood memories best in the light of summer? Afterwards comes the fall of our lives and changes begin to happen rapidly. As our souls mature we enter into the longest season of our lives, winter. Adulthood comes in grand obedience to the order of things. We have to accept it, there is no turning back to early ages.


Maturity may not arrive in the beginning of our winter, however underneath the blanket of snow we can rest and soak in the calmness, learning how to become the adults we are intended to be. Under the cover of snow we can still appear to be childlike and frolic in the snowflakes that come our way. While at the same time in the fury of storms we can become stronger and learn how to brace ourselves incase of sub-zero temperatures and the absence of sun in the dreary winter days of our lives.


I look forward to the day when spring comes again to grace my soul, for my Savior will make all things new again. For now, I am happy to be standing in the midst of the splendor of my winter season. I am soaking in the nourishment from the snow and learning how to move the glaciers in my life with God’s grace. I do not desire to return to the spring or summer of my life, I have trudged too far into my winter to look back now, yet I still can frolic in the snow and create angels in my tracks. I still can smile at the sight of bunny prints upon the new fallen snow knowing they too are enjoying their winter.


Crystals of delight are falling now, covering the spring, summer and fall of my spirit. I welcome the new fallen grace upon my soul. I cherish every flake of snow which falls upon my spirit and it makes my heart dance with joy on the ice covered lakes. I anticipate the new spring which is coming, but meanwhile I will be enjoying the scenery. Don’t worry about me, I will be here in the winter of my life catching snowflakes on my tongue.

I loved the way you described the different seasons of life but one thing about aging is how you see yourself and at my age I am not in the winter months but God's glorious brillant sunshine through Jesus my Savior.
