Her mother had tried to warn her, "Lindsea, I know you love him and he loves you, but he's just like your father. Don't you remember all the dinners he missed, your school plays, even your birthday parties, all those telephone calls in the late hours of the night and then him trying to quietly sneak out of the house?”
Lindsea remembered, but she had been twenty-three at the time and Andrew was so attentive and she just knew in her heart he was the one true one she was destined to be with. Even tonight as she lay alone in the silk sheets and could hear the gentle roar of the wind and the beatings of the tides on the sandy dunes, she felt the same way. She knew that he was with another woman at this exact moment, when she so desperately needed him. There had been so many nights the telephone would ring and Andrew would try to quietly sneak out of the house, trying not to wake her and there were some nights that he didn't return at all. They had been married twenty-five years and it had happened on a regular basis the entire time. Lindsea always consoled herself with, "For better or worse."
Andrew Waverly was an excellent provider and a wonderful father to their two children who were now in college. There were times when she wondered how they ever managed to conceive two children with him being away so much. In the midst of all of his absences and relationships with other women, he still managed to make her feel loved and secure.
The telephone calls that came were usually from Andrew's answering service or his office, but there were times when the women themselves would call him at home. Even worse, were the calls from the frantic husbands, demanding to speak to Andrew immediately.
Lindsea finally got out of the bed that had been described in the brochure as "wooing you to slumber", and went out to the balcony and looked at the rising sea waves.
She had met many of the women he had been involved with and they still acted like they had claim to him. He had even had second and third relationships with some of these women. There were even times when Lindsea would be cleaning out his coat pockets and find snapshots of Andrew with these various women and sometimes their families.
As the sun began to dawn across the eastern sky, the ocean looked brand new, the wind felt like a warm fuzzy blanket and she realized that regardless of all the women Andrew had been and would continue to be involved with, he was her first love and he would remain her last love.
Suddenly, she felt familiar arms go around her and pull her close. She smelled the familiar scent of her beloved husband. "Andrew, when did you get here, how?" she
asked.
"I worked things out with your dad; in fact he told me I better get here to be with his daughter.” he replied.
"Well, what about, what was her name, Deidre?" How did you explain to her that you had to leave her to be with me?" Lindsea asked.
Andrew replied, "She's fine now. It was truly amazing, but she doesn’t need me any more.”
Lindsea snuggled close to her wonderful husband and thanked God for putting them together as husband and wife. Her husband, Dr. Andrew Waverly, had helped, along with her father, deliver many high risk pregnancy babies over the last twenty-five years. She was so proud of him, so in love with a man that after all these years was still amazed at the pure miracle of birth that God had established.
They both looked at the beautiful morning sea and knew that God's waves of destiny had indeed put them together.
