to point the way to God
through my poetry and music.
God said to me:
“It takes patience to grow a tree,
a thing of majestic beauty,
whose roots grow deep
so it can stand tall
and reach toward heaven.”
I want to be compassionate,
a source of healing for others.
God said to me:
“In pain the oyster weeps tears,
precious nacre,
making irritants beautiful.”
I want to be a sweet-smelling offering,
seasoning to a dull world.
God said to me:
“Herbs must be patiently crushed,
their tender leaves bruised
to release their fragrant aroma,
their piquant flavor.”
I want to be a light
to a world lost in darkness.
God said to me:
“It takes patience to forge a diamond.
Within the darkest depths,
through centuries of intense
pressure,heat, and stress,
patiently cut and polished
by the Master,
a gem of unsurpassed beauty
and multi-faceted light is created.”
I want to be a child of God.
God said to me:
“It takes patience, my child--
growing and weeping,
crushing and bruising,
pressure and fire,
chiseling and polishing
until you’re a reflection
of your Father’s love.
