“Yes, I understand. Waiting can be difficult, are you keeping yourself busy?” Konsciente asked.
“I’m trying.” Cherchina sighed. “Although I haven’t worked on my wedding garment for over a month now.”
“A month? Your bridegroom could come for you soon, what would you wear?”
Cherchina laughed. “Soon? This betrothal period seems as if it may never end. Sometimes I wonder if he will come for me at all.”
“Of course he will Cherchina! You should go now and work on your wedding dress.”
Cherchina walked down the hallway to her bedroom and let out a sound of dismay when she gazed upon her wedding gown lying in a heap on the floor. Although it could barely be called a gown at this point; all that was finished was the bodice.
When Cherchina became betrothed to her beloved bridegroom she spent many hours working on her gown, using only the finest wool, silk thread, and sparkling sequins to adorn the dress. On those days when she began doubting the return of her betrothed, she would read over the letters he had left her, promising the return for his bride.
Cherchina picked up the bodice and eyed it carefully – “Oh, what’s the point?” She asked herself. “He’s obviously not in any hurry to come for me,” Cherchina threw the bodice on the bed. She turned and saw her bridegroom’s letters lying on the table beside her bed. With one quick swoop she knocked them to the floor and angrily stomped out of the room.
Cherchina stood at the kitchen sink with dishrag in hand, bitterly scrubbing each dish. This was when what seemed liked a brilliant idea formed in her mind. Cherchina quickly found the drawer where she kept her dishrags, gathered all of them up and took them to her sewing room.
She then went to the box where she kept the rags which were no longer suitable even for washing dishes, and gathered them up as well. After Cherchina had gathered all the rags she could find and put them in the sewing room, she took the bodice which was to be her wedding garment into the sewing room. She smiled and a devious laugh escaped her lips as she went about the business of making her wedding gown.
Cherchina spent the next several weeks cutting and sewing rags of various size and color until finally the gown was finished. “This is perfect.” She told the image of herself in the full length mirror. She spun around and around, admiring her work of revenge. Cherchina thought she had never seen such a hideous looking garment as this.
Just as she was about to remove the dress, she heard loud voices, singing, and laughing coming from outside her window. She pulled the curtain aside and what she saw made her heart flutter and jump in her chest. The entire wedding party and her bridegroom were coming up the walk to her door.
Cherchina ran for the front door, almost tripping over the train of rags on her wedding gown. “He did come back for me, He did!” She swung the door open to find her beloved bridegroom standing at the entrance. He was smiling widely, holding a bouquet of beautiful flowers. Cherchina watched his beautiful face as his smile slowly dissipated, turning into a look of bewilderment.
She looked down at her wedding garment and fingered the handiwork of rags. Embarrassment and shame took hold of her being. Cherchina gazed into the eyes of her beloved. She took his hand, and together they made their way through the streets of the city, headed for the long awaited wedding.

In the last paragraph, I thought the transition from embarassment and humiliation to celebration was quite abrupt--it threw me, a bit.
Other than that little moment, this was very enjoyable! Loved it.
I was very curious about the character's names. Do they mean something? I was hoping there was a reason for the "odd" names you gave them. I'm off to google those two words!
Wonderfully done.
