As the preacher prays on
Your parents are mourning
It's just so unreal, you can't really be gone
The preacher says the final prayer
A hand clasps my shoulder; your parents offer a quiet goodbye
They ask if I am okay, I turn my head
Refusing to let them see my cry
Friendships are forever, without ever an end
The greatest gift is when they first begin
No greater love than this
Than a man who lay down his life for his friend
Your life was just too short
I can only blame that one me
And the depth of tragedy
That neither of us could foresee
Friendships are forever, without ever an end
The greatest gift is when they first begin
No greater love than this
Than a man who lay down his life for his friend
I glance back at your grave
Just one more looks again
The silence still remains
But through the whispering wind I hear a quiet voice, "There is no greater love than this."

Consider polishing up the meter of this a bit; it'll improve the flow for your readers. As it is, we trip up a bit when the rhythm becomes irregular.
You're right--friendship is a marvelous gift. Reading your poem helps us to remember to be thankful for the friends we have.
