Recently I had just such an opportunity and planned to visit a cyber-friend I met on-line through FaithWriters. With emails and cell calls between his wife, sister, and me, we made arrangements for weeks, all in anticipation of the initial look on the intended surprisee’s face. But that wasn’t the only reason to do all this planning. My cyber-friend and I electronically communicated frequently, interspersed with an occasional phone call, and discovered we had so much in common it was uncanny (I’m sure this chance meeting on-line was purely coincidental and caught God completely unawares).
Recently my friend lost his dog Sam. It tore at my heart because my best friend is named Sam (one of my five dogs). A few weeks later I lost one of my dogs and Dave (his real name used, hopefully to make him blush) was on the phone with comforting and encouraging words. I waited until after we hung up to cry.
Was my initial visit a surprise? You met! But as usually happens when one wants to give a blessing to someone else, they receive the bigger blessing. A week later I left full of love and blessings from Dave, his family, friends, and church.
There was one other surprise too. The 2965 miles, well, that was what my friend once told me was the distance we lived apart. What he didn’t calculate in was this directionally impaired driver drove his rental car 243.2 miles to get to his house from the airport which is only an hour away – SURPRISE!
