Now that I am an adult, I have had the honor of bringing four children into this world. None of which are full of sugar and spice and everything nice. The Lord has blessed me with four, handsome boys that are made of snakes, snails, and puppy tails. Our weekends are full of playing anything that involves a ball, and if we’re not playing a sport, we are watching one.
My identical twins, Corey and Spencer learned how to walk at 13-months-old and by the time they were 14-months-old they were kicking a ball. Currently, at the age of 10 they play on an elite, soccer travel team. On several occasions while on the side-lines I would hear fans of the opposing team commenting on my sons’ abilities to play the game. If I had a dime for every time I heard someone say, “Those two are double trouble,” I would be richer than, “Bend it like Beckam.”
Next in line, is my 6-year-old, Andrew, who is determined to keep-up with his older brothers. When Andrew was only 1-year-old, he could swish several basketball shots, in a row, a few feet away from our little indoor basketball hoop. My brother-in-law, Tony, took a video of Andrew shooting one day. We might consider sending it into American Funniest Video’s television show and maybe win the grand prize for “Want-a-be Munchkin Magic Johnson!”
Finally, my dear, sweet, 3-year-old, Randy is far from being the baby of the house. He will tackle his brothers and take them down in a heartbeat. He is built with broad shoulders and a larger bone frame allowing him to tower over other kids his age. Football and soccer seem to be his favorite sports to play. Yet, when he is watching football, I worry that he enjoys watching the Quarter Back get sacked a little too much. A Defensive Linebacker may be in his future.
In an article that I once read, a child psychiatrist advised parents to get involved in what interests their children. So, I took his advice to heart and may have gone overboard because now, I can be heard screaming at the TV louder than my sons during Sunday afternoon football games. Plus, because of Tiki Barber’s announcement to retire from the New York Giants football team at the end of 2005-2006 season, I just had to find the biggest wide-screen TV to watch his last game during the Pro-bowl in Hawaii. Call me a fan or call me obsessed, but I even have three laminated Tiki Barber cards, a NY Giants’ Santa hat, and an adorable, blue and red, #21, Barber teddy bear.
Having boys does not change the fact that I am still a girl that is made of sugar, and spice and everything nice. Except now, I think my spice has changed from a soft, light, cinnamon type to a more peppery, zesty, Cajun style. In Biblical times a woman who had sons was considered to be blessed for sons were the legacy of the family. A mother knew that her sons would take care of her during her elderly years. I am confident that my sons will be very helpful as my husband and I age, but more importantly, because of my boys, I have become a soccer mom, an athlete, and a football fan. “GO GIANTS!”

There are a few punctuation errors, but nothing too significant.
My admiration goes out to mothers of boys!
