I’m quick to toddle to the stairs
And look down like Napoleon,
At lands to conquer if I dare;
But soon I take a tumble
And pride, once injured, quickly swells,
Becoming more determined
To make myself my private hell;
I’ve thrown off all authority
And hope instead to walk in fame,
But tripping in my baby steps
I’m quick to cast off any blame—
But when I see I’m just a child
Who needs not walk this world alone,
And I’ve a Father waiting by
Who wants so much to bring me home,
Then I can take His hand in mine
And mount the stairs in victory,
Together we will walk in love,
No power of hate can conquer me;
And when I choose to take my pride
And place it in my Daddy’s hand,
Not even hell in all its strength
Against my Dad and I can stand…
