How often have we all heard the phrase, “give me a break” from someone feeling that life has dealt them a bad hand. Not only have I heard the phrase spoken but have been known to mutter it myself from time to time. Truth be known the phrase “give me a break” is usually followed by extensive cursing and complaining about life in general. I think what we are asking, is for life to give us a chance without throwing some kind of road block in the way. What most of us fail to realize is that life is not going to give us anything, we will only get out of life what we are willing to put into it. Sometimes even the best efforts of humans to make their life a pleasant experience is doomed to fail because of factors beyond their control. Usually these factors are thought to be bad luck or problems caused by the interference of other people. The last choice that we all seem to make is the one we should have made in the first place, and that is to ask for God’s help.
Instead of complaining about not getting a break that we think we deserve and wondering why a break never seems to come, we should think about asking God to help us. I know that God will help me but sometimes when I am overwhelmed with everyday problems I tend to forget where the real answer can be found. I remember reading about what faith can do and as a last resort I come to the conclusion that I should ask God for he help I need. This is kind of like working on a project for hours and deciding that reading the instructions would be a good idea. God in his infinite wisdom has given us the instructions we need to make our life complete, and they can be found in the bible. In our everyday life we tend to bee so busy we never find the time to either pray, or read the teachings of the bible, when this is where the answers to life’s problems can be found.
Thinking back to the times when my life was in turmoil and there seemed to be nothing I could do that would change it I remember how helpless I felt. All that changed when I came to the conclusion that I needed to look for the answers in scripture and prayer instead of the bottom of an empty whisky bottle. I tried to read the bible but I never seemed to be able to understand what I was readings, so one night I ask God help me make the right decisions in my life. God did just that and my life has been so much better sense then that I have to wonder why it took so long to ask.
The next time I hear someone utter the expression “give me a break” I will let them know that the real break can be found by asking God to help
