TITLE: The Biggest Bang
By Karen McCabe

He knew what he was doing. For the first time, he decided to come out of himself. Why we may never know. But it changed everything...forever.

Until then, it had just been "me, myself and I." But now, there would be an "other-than." In less than one week, there would be someone else.

What had filled up his life before that? He didn’t need someone else. He was completely content with just himself. Would he be content now with an “other-than?” Especially this “other-than?”

Somehow, within the "me, myself and I," he came up with a plan. He weighed all the possibilities, all scenarios and all the costs and still decided to go ahead and do it.

He reasoned that it was worth it.

He created an “other-than.”

And what was that “other-than?”

He was Light. The “other-than” would have to be darkness. He created darkness to make way for Light. He never said the darkness was good. Only God is good. And darkness was the “other-than.”

Space began.

Time began.

He spoke into the darkness, "Let there be Light." Nothing ever had come out of Him before. But when He spoke, the power of the Word exploded into being - the real Big Bang. “All things were made through Him (the Word), and without Him nothing was made that was made.” (Jn. 1:3)

Sound began.

Light began.

Life began.

Not that they had not existed before. They had. In Him.

But now they were "other-than."

One week it took Him. Six days to create it all and one day to sit back and enjoy it all - because it was good. It was a good plan. And He was content.

He is simple complexity. Creation seems so confusing until He turns on the Light to illumine a curious mind. Only then does it begin to make sense. His sense. He is knowledge and wisdom. He is power and light. He is truth and grace. And it all fits perfectly into His plan.

You are part of that plan. He fashioned your days for you before there ever was one of them (Ps. 139:16). He gave you the freedom of choice; you can choose Him or the “other-than.” But since He sees the beginning from the end, He knows the choices you will make. All He asks of you is to believe in His plan and love Him.

“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (Jn. 1:14)

He has given you everything you need - the faith - to believe in His plan. He has provided everything you need - the Word - to come out of the darkness and into His light.

And when you do…

You are the twinkle in His eye.
You are the love of His life.
And you delight His heart.

The Big Bang happened when God said, "Let there be Light."

But the biggest bang happened when He said it…

to you.
