A world in need

Wrought with despair
Restless lost souls
In need of repair
Turning to idols
Ebbing from prayer
Relinquishing hope
Suppressing all cope

I write for the soul of those who are lost
Neglecting His death will painfully cost
Somber reminders His word does reveal
Pursing without Him, His wrath you will feel
In God’s book of life, your name it must be
Remember it’s choice, I beg and I plea
Allow His death to remove all your sins
The second coming is when life begins
I tell you the truth in Him there is light
Open your eyes to spiritual sight
No longer living inside of your plight

The affliction of this world is great, the oppression offensive, and none are immune to the pain of sorrow. All are subject to the sewage of despair, inflicted by the prince of this world: the adversary, the accuser, and the angel of the bottomless pit.

Yet, through the simple act of choice, all of mankind has been given the opportunity to receive everlasting salvation into God’s Kingdom. To walk in the light of hope and promise, through every ordeal we endure and each trial set before us.

Still many continue to reject Him and risk leaving this world without their name recorded into the Book of Life.

Revelation 20:12-15

And I saw the dead, small, and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

There are those who seethe with disgust, claiming that informing others about God’s ultimate wrath, is a fear tactic to bring people to Christ. However, God’s written word is no tactic at all, but rather a loving warning so that none should perish.

Consider the words of King Solomon:

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs: 3-7

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.

Can you imagine standing at the Great White Throne Judgment of God and seeing someone you know or love…yourself, being cast into the eternal lake of fire?

Here is the account of one such man, who realized the agony of eternal separation from God, too late.

Luke 16:20-26

But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
“Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’

Since tomorrow is not guaranteed to any of us, I will say again and perhaps for a final time, “eternity is long, don't be wrong.”

What a tremendous warning! What merciful, long-suffering Lord who gave His life for us. Yes, eternity is long, but it can be any time now. Written in urgency and deep love for the lost and the complacent to "consider our ways" before the Almighty God.
Excellent job in bringing the Word out. Let's be of good courage in the Lord and let's be faithful. God be with you. Amen!

One of the great features of FaithWriters is Jan's Writing Class which can be found by clicking on the Forums at the top of this page. Jan is currently looking at poetry construction and I'm sure you'll find what she has to say most helpful.

I especially like your "eternity is long; don't be wrong" line. I liked the way you combined poetry, prose and scripture, into a kind of colorful quilt to make your point and bring it home strongly.

P.S. I read people's Challenge entries by copying them into a text document and then sending them to my PDA/phone where I read them, record my comment, and come back and file my comment. Because it was a TEXT copy, it didn't copy your BOLDFACED letters, and I initially missed the fact that each of your poem's lines was a letter in A Writer's Inspiration. Just noticed that, and it is VERY well done, strengthening your overall message MUCH. Like it a LOT!
