In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
10.But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid ; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
"This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased." (Luke 2:8-14 NASV)
On a day like none other
The heavens broke forth in praise
And made a great announcement
A child is born this day
His birth is unassuming
And His bed of low degree
You’ll find Him wrapped in blankets
In a manger fast asleep
CHORUS
The announcement of heaven’s perfect child
Came from angels “glory in the highest”
He’s the savior this world has so longed for
His name is Jesus – a king this day was born
I just cannot imagine
What it must have been like
To witness on that morning
The birth of One so high
When the angels brought that message
To the shepherds in the field
What glorious adulation
As their hearts with joy were filled
This is a song that was composed on a day when I just felt like pondering on what the true meaning of Christmas really is. In the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, especially around the holiday season, it's just good to take the time and give a quality reflection on "What is really the reason that God gave us Christmas?" To me, it can be summed up in one name, and that is JESUS.
