Topic: Father (as in paternal parent, not God) (04/10/08)
What is a father? The world likes to look negatively on the role of fathers; they like to look at the moms and all they do. Well I would like to look positively on the role father’s play, and to introduce you to a true father, my dad Ray. He is a one of a kind dad; he is the one who taught me to bake chocolate chip cookies, and how to ride a bike. He taught me how to hammer in a nail, and paint a wall. He taught me perseverance, and how to be content with a little. My dad is a disabled Vet; he injured his knees while serving in the Marine Core. Recently he had a triple by pass, and five years ago he had a stroke. Did he give up? Did he let these set backs stop him? No, he kept going and through doing so, taught me more then he will ever know. My dad just did not teach me the common things like riding a bike and such; he taught me the message of the heart, the message that even thought he does not always say I love you everything he does is filled with love. He taught me to dream, to laugh, to cry, he taught me that when life is rough keep going. He taught me to learn from my mistakes, and to pick myself up when I fall, he taught me that Christ is the one to turn to when life is tough, to always have faith and to always believe in Gods providence. My father is my hero, always has been always will be, without him life would be almost unbearable, The Motto of the Marine Core suits my dad like a glove Semper Fi- always faithful . I owe my father a world of thanks and a world of gratitude. Dad I love you.

I love the unexpected details like the chocolate chip cookies--an interesting contrast with what you expect from a Marine.

A note: its the Marine Corps (with a silent "ps"), and "bypass" is one word.

Your love for your father is obvious--thanks for sharing.

A few typos here there but truly a heartfelt tribute to your dad. I hope you give this to him on Father's Day.

This brought tears to my eyes. Dads are such special people--they really need to be told that.
