She came out of love
He came out of pride

She gave her all
He gave of his excess

Her pennies’ sound lost among the silver and gold
His large coins clanked loudly for all could hear

Small offering but not ashamed
Large offering and should have been

No one acknowledged hers, except One
Heads turned and nodded at his “sacrifice”

She left unnoticed, except by One
He stayed to the praise of men

No one knew her name, except One
All knew his and lost in history

She gave all and became rich
He gave little and became poor

She lost her poverty
He gained poverty of soul

She received the attention of God
He received the attention of men

Jesus spoke of both
But only one will live on

One, gave of her whole living
One, gave up a reward

One, life to riches
One, life to nothingness

One, a gift of love
One, a purchase of men’s praise

She in her poverty became far richer than he had ever been

Based on Mark 12:41-44

Beautiful piece...she used her gift in the humblest of manner...and received the greatest reward.

If only...each believer used their spiritual gift in a like manner...imagine the impact the "church" would have on our world...

I believe that many of us live in "spiritual poverty," with nothing to blame but our own disobedience.

Good theme, great writing...

Wonderful parallel structure, it really emphasizes the irony of these two people and their giving.

I'll bet you wish you could fix that typo in the title...believe me, I've made similar boo-boos.

This poem is rich and deep...I really like it.

This is beautiful! I liked the comparisons here, it is very well portrayed here! Gave me goosebumps reading it. Must we never forget this message!

Congratulations on your placing.
What a wonderful presentation of one of the Bible's best examples of giving generously.
