Buried Treasure
Andrew had a pail,
A shovel and a cup.
He took them to the seaside.
What did he dig up?
Sticks and stones
And old fish bones;
A string and a hook;
Part of a book;
A piece of red rug;
A big brown bug;
The lid off a pot
And a beautiful rock;
A sheriff’s star;
The keys to a car;
A blue t-shirt;
And a gun that squirts!
The hole was getting deep.
Andrew jumped inside.
He shoveled out more sand.
What treasures did it hide?
A baby’s toy;
The shorts of a boy;
Somebody’s hair!!!!
(What’s it doing there??!!)
A starfish!!!
A dead fish….
Seaweed;
A tree seed;
Turtle eggs, clams;
The shoes of a man;
A jar full of money
That used to hold honey;
There was still lots of sand
So he dug and he dug.
What did he find?
An old coffee mug;
A golden ring with a giant stone,
The kind I think a queen would own.
A hermit crab in the shell of a snail;
A purple boat with a yellow sail;
A square of green glass;
Some stuff that was trash;
A china plate
And a latch from a gate;
A doorknob, a doll;
A very small ball;
A hammer, some nails,
And a train, but no rails;
Mom came from the house;
“It’s time to come back.
Have you found lots of things?
I brought you a sack.”
She looked down at Andrew,
Deep in the sand,
“I’ll get you a ladder,
And give you a hand!
“To dig anymore,
A new day we’ll plan.
Next time, you might find
A Chinese man.”
