It has been asked: “To whom do we give thanks?” followed by: “What do we thank them for?” The Apostle Paul tells us to give thanks to God. This request was made to all colossians. In answer to the second question, we can thank God for giving us the inheritance of the saints. Perhaps some Christians are not aware they have an inheritance. Is that inheritance here and now in this life? Only the Father knows, and only He can qualify us for this legacy, made available through His Son Jesus.
Often, we probably fail to praise God when it is appropriate – perhaps not realizing He is in control of all that happens to us day-by-day. Even though circumstances may confront us we would rather not have, if we believe it is the will of God, should we give thanks? According to the Apostle Paul, the answer is ‘yes.’ “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1Thessalonians 5:18 KJV) Listen to your heart – listen to God.
Scripture Verse:
I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands.” (Psalms 63:4 NIV)
“But the King will rejoice in God; all who swear by God’s name will praise Him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.” (Psalms 63:11 NIV)
Prayer for Today:
“Oh Lord God, let us praise Your name forever. You are an all powerful, omnipotent Triune God. May You receive glory, honor and praise from our hearts and lips. May we exalt You above all the earth and Heaven. If we could but give to You, but how can we give to You, when all we have came from You? Amen.”
Thought for Today:
It pleases God when we come into His presence with thanksgiving and make a joyful noise unto Him.
Each morning, it is well to think of all the blessings in our lives and give thanks to God. The beauty of nature, the freshness of the morning and simply being alive to enjoy it all are blessings. As the day progresses, events – whether pleasant or unpleasant – should be acknowledged, and we should send our thanks to Him through prayer.
