“What do you mean?” she asked me in astonishment. “It’s not what we do in order to win the prize of eternal life with the Lord. It’s what Christ has done for us that matters. The only way to get into heaven is to have faith. To have faith that Jesus is the Son of God.” I said this to her with great emotion in my voice. You see, I love this little friend of mine so much, and I wanted for her to understand the meaning of salvation.
“Oh, but I do believe that with all of my heart,” she earnestly told me, “and have since a child.” I placed my hand on her fragile arm and felt her worn thin skin and gently told her, “We cannot be good enough on our own, dear. If we could then Jesus would not have had to come to this earth, to live a hard life of pain and rejection only having the few who would believe He was the Son of God, then willingly suffer an agonizing death on the cross to pay for our sins.
We must repent of our sins by confessing them to the Lord, and turn away from our sins to live a new life in Christ. You see it all comes back to faith.” “I never thought of it that way before” she whispered, “I can see you truly have a great faith indeed. You know I believe you’re right. Jesus did die for my sins.”
With tears in my eyes I said to her, “with that knowledge you can know from now on that you will indeed go to heaven when you die and another thing too. I’ll meet you there, and we will know each other.” She looked at me with great surprise.
“Do you mean to tell me that everyone will know each other?” she asked with a gasp. “Of course we will.” I replied. With tear filling her eyes she asked, “Do you mean that I will know my mother and my father?” By this time we were both so excited that tears were falling down our faces.
“Not only will we know each other, but we will know the great prophets, the disciples, and all the great people in the Bible, but the most important person we will know is Jesus in all His glory. And will forever and ever be with Him. May I pray with you I asked her? “Yes, that would be nice.”
