Sports, the market, politics
And the military in the mix
MSNBC, Fox and CNN
Where does it all end?
Fox Business news, CNBC
So many outlets vying for me
Throw in late night talk shows
And propaganda on the radio
Endless talking heads push their views
Whatever happened to the truth?
With all of the variety
On the WWW and satellite TV
It’s a wonder anyone can achieve
Any sense of clarity
All the networks spin the information
Confusing the minds of a wondering nation
Desperately needing to find the right road
We have information overload!
There’s so much advice and data available
With every bit of knowledge attainable
On your personal internet device
At your service all the time
Whatever you can think to ask
Just Google it and you’ll get back
Myriads of info to weed through
Do you ever question if it’s true?
Follow your podcasts or YouTube’s every sensation
Is it worthy of your preoccupation?
With so many options at our fingertips
Apple and Android “smart phones” and tablets
If by chance your phone isn’t charged
Access the Web through your TV, if it’s “smart”
You can always use Roku or Apple TV
Your X-Box player or your Wii
Limitless choices big and small
Even on your watch - you can have it all!
Whichever gadget it is that you hold
You’re in for information overload!
How often we can get sidetracked
With Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat
Is life really any more meaningful
Because we use social media?
Pinning this and tweeting that
Posting pictures of our cats
Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram
Have you seen the latest Groupon ad?
Always keeping up to date
With every interest which we associate
With 900 friends on my list
There is little time left, I admit
To do the things that matter most
And stop stressing over the latest post
I wonder where the hours go
I’ve got information overload!

My only red ink is I noticed you switched the voice around a bit. At the very beginning, you use first person singular (me, I). In the middle, you switch to second person. Even though I still love the message, using you can make some feel like they are being lectured. I think it would be more powerful if you had stuck with I or me. It would make me feel like you were chatting with me. In the last stanza, you switch to we. This feels less preachy in my opinion, but still not as strong as I. Near the end you switched back to I again, and I thought it a brilliant ending.
You really nailed the topic for sure. Although poetry isn't my strong suit, I felt the words just flowed off my tablet. It's a piece I could read over and over. You definitely made me comfortable. I sensed you even knew I need to hear these words. Your sense of humor left me smiling and nodding my head. You hit it out of the park for sure. Spectacular piece. You are a true artist.
Your piece shows knowledge of all the latest sources of information overload. I hope you aren't really also locked into it.
This piece is a good warning to all of us in today's electronic gadgets world. There is another source for peace and a look at what is important for the future.
