Topic: TRAVELER (01/28/16)
"And seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare."

From different lands, emigrants were pouring in. The young and the old were lugging their paltry personal possessions- frayed paper bags of old and tattered clothes. Sea of haggard faces and dim eyes testified to months of travail in their long and weary journey. Like stranded souls wondering in a strange land were these newcomers. Zachary was one of these vivacious refugee children who had recently arrived in a new country.

He recalled his last Sunday School memory verse Jeremiah 29:7. Is it an AHA moment for me? Can this be the country that I should seek its welfare and intercede on its behalf? That was twenty years ago, and now he is at the crossroads again.

Racial riots and sporadic shootings seem to dominate the news. The familiar spectre of looting and tension rears its ugly head again. Taking a deep breath, he scanned the newspaper but was interrupted by his little darlings.

" Dad, my school's closed down...will reopen when the troubles over " Anna cried.

" They'd burned down my school ! " Jonathan sobbed.

" I'm sorry for what you're going through. Things will get better."

Zachary contained himself and cuddled his children like a bear.

A successful entrepreneur who has created lots of jobs, but he ponders about investing his vast resources in the country of his origin, a recently robust economy. Being born there, he feels attracted to the people and their culture. He is confident that he can become easily 'naturalized '. Perhaps, he should do it for the sake of his family.


" Brothers and Sisters, may I urge you to pay back to the society by serving the poor and less fortunate in our neighbourhood."

Pastor John Das preached his last sermon before retirement this morning. Surely, it was no freak.


Zachary's heart was strangely warmed when this Bible verse spoke again, affirming the God's moment he had experienced twenty years ago was no coincidence.

A good story, but a number of errors in grammar and punctuation, incomplete sentences etc. These things make a story harder to follow and distract from the message. Often a close proofreading will eliminate many of these issues.

Nicely written story of many even today. The unanswered question: "Where to today?"

It is stories like these that get us to thinking. Will we be next? Am I on the list? What would I do?
