We are ready to go. I love driving in the car, especially when the windows are down. The hot summer air rushes in and pushes my hair back. The air also has a gentle coolness about it that makes my eyes tear. It sometimes makes me sneeze too.
I always get to sit in the middle in the back seat and love watching my dad in the rear view mirror as he belts out his favorite classic rock song. My brothers are the best at air guitar.
At the hotel my mom tells us to stay put until she unpacks everything. We decide to go out into the hallway and toss the football around. Anyone that has boys knows that this is not a good idea, and it didn’t take long for this time killing game of catch to turn into thunder dome.
My older brother Johnny has a big rug burn on his knee. Joe my middle brother hit the wall so hard he has a bump on his head. Me, I sprained my wrist crashing into the neighbor’s door. And from the look on her face she’s not happy that we woke her up from her afternoon nap.
My mom is not happy either and is making us sit by the window until she’s ready to go. Honestly that’s not cool, taking us to the beach and then making us look at from inside our room. My dad reminds us to remember 2 Corinthians 5:7 which says, “We live by faith, not by sight.” The beach is a sight for sore eyes and I’m faithful that I will be in the water soon.
Finally I’m walking on the sand. My brothers are chasing me around, but it’s hard to keep up with them because they have longer legs than me. I grab the Frisbee and we start tossing it around. Since I sprained my wrist I can only catch it. I have to bring it someone and have them throw it.
It is really hot today and the water is so refreshing. My brothers are trying to make a tennis ball skid across the water. I don’t know why, but I always feel the need to retrieve it every time.
Then we started body surfing. It is so much fun riding on the back of one of my brothers. Johnny is big enough that I’m able to stand on his back. Sliding into the sand as I came onto the shore is also a lot of fun. We always see who can get the farthest across the sand. My mom keeps warning us that we are going to get a rash on our bellies if were not careful. So I try and slide in on my back instead.
It’s starting to get late and my dad made a fire pit in the sand. We have a nice fire going right now. My mom reaches into her bag of tricks and out comes the graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. YEESS!!! We’re going to make s’mores.
Everyone else in the family likes their s’mores with marshmallows, but I like mine with peanut butter. I only eat two because I don’t want to spend the rest of the night trying to get the stuck peanut butter off the roof of my mouth.
Tomorrow we are going to hang out down on the boardwalk. That means lots of hot dogs and ice cream. I pray that the rest of the weekend is just as action packed as today was. I love it when we go on these weekend vacations. I love my family and I love being their pet Bulldog. Life is good!
