America, our nation, was founded by men who had a desire for religious freedom. It is evident by how often they referred to God, not to Budda, not to Mohammad, but to God in their speeches and legal documents.
In Virginia, a Declaration of Rights was written in 1776. The Declaration stated, "That religion, or the duty which we owe to our Creator, and the manner of discharging it, can be directed only by reason and conviction, not by force or violence, and therefore all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates of conscience, and that it is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian forbearance, love and charity towards each other." (Jameson, 86) Notice the words used in the Declaration of Rights; Creator and Christian.
Look at our currency, the words, “In God We Trust” are imprinted and engraved on our money. Those same words were and still are in some government buildings. In 1954, fearing a threat from Communist, President Eisenhower encouraged congress to add the words, “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance. Thus, the words remain at least for the time being.
America has been a nation rich in blessings until recent years. Could it be that this great nation is under God’s punishment for making laws that contradict His; laws that legalize abortion, drugs, and gay marriages?
I can’t help but wonder if the men and women who gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today were given a glimpse of today’s America would think they gave their lives in vain. Is America still the land of the free, one nation under God, a nation blessed because God is our Lord? America isn’t it time that we return to our roots and stand up for Jesus!

We are not a nation who holds the Bible up as our guide but as a dividing rod.
Your article is well written and gives us a cause for concern over the direction of America.
