I look down at the postcard and concentrate on the empty space for writing. Wow, this white space looks minuscule.
I think back to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where we watched the sunset turn the rocks to a gorgeous rust-hue color along the river and falls. We visited the uniquely different Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. They used thousands of corncobs to make pictures on the outside of the building. It was fascinating to see. The drive we took through the majestic, hauntingly beautiful hills of the Badlands National Park was memorable. Custer State Park with the huge bison and friendly donkeys was a surprise. One of the donkeys was so good-natured he came up to our window and licked it. We all had a good laugh about that. The grandeur of Mt. Rushmore National Memorial and the intricate Pigtail Bridges on nearby Iron Mountain Road were unforgettable.
I look again at the tiny white space staring back at me. I have so much to write.
Yesterday we drove through Yellowstone Park. There was much more to see than “Old Faithful.” Acre upon acre of prairie grass and trees held several animals including bison, elk, deer, moose, coyote and little prairie dogs just to name a few. The Great Thumb Basin with its’ boiling, sulfur-stinking pots was impressive. The town of Mammoth Hot Springs, where the magnificent elk roam free, was breathtaking.
All of a sudden I realize my postcard enigma.
! put pen to the paper, take a deep breath and start writing:
Where all we’ve been,
We’ve seen God’s glory,
You will have to wait,
To hear our story.
Thinking of you – wish you were here!
