I threw the covers off that I had previously immersed myself in. This was the third time I came out from under the intense heat to find cooler air since going to bed. Lying on my damp pillow I turned to look at my husband, Tony. Totally clueless of my plight, he slept on…comfortable in his own skin. I, however, was uncomfortable as I made myself get up and change nightshirts once again. Stumbling over my shoes that I had left by my bed, I saw in the filtered moonlight, Tony rise up on his elbow and ask…
“Honey, are you flashing…AGAIN?”
I started to say something smart but thought better of it and replied, “Yes”, I groaned, “and it’s so aggravating!”
“I’m sorry, why don’t you come back to bed and let me hold you….” he said.
“I can’t, because you have way too much body heat!” I replied.
I finished putting on my dry nightshirt and scooted back into bed. At the same time, thanking the Good Lord for king-size beds.
“Honey,” I said, “would you move over just a little bit, I need a little more cool air around me.”
Tony obliged and rooted all the way over to his side of the bed.
I heard the grin in his voice as he said…”you used to say come closer now you say move over!”
I laughed and said, “You’re right and this could last for years!”
Lying back down, I was wide awake. I thought to myself, I wonder who came up with the word menopause. It must have been a woman trying to give men a clue as to what to do….
Men-O-Pause must stand for “Men Ought to Pause” before they speak to a woman who is sweating, looks irritable, can’t remember what she was doing, and looks at you like you have two heads…..She is most likely having a menopausal moment.
My husband has learned to “pause” quite well. He is quick to smile and say, “I love you” no matter what. He has decided that I am always right, and his best response to me is always “Yes, Dear”….
This has JUST come about since menopause….
I roll over in bed and just before I fall back asleep I thank God because….
Apparently, as I go through the change so does my husband!
“MENOPAUSE RULES!”
(Not really, but it helps to be positive!)
