Topic: Snap (09/04/08)
I’m stumped by the topic of “snap”.
It seems like a cruel booby trap,
For all who love writing look forward to sighting
A theme that’s not off of the map.

Who’s chosen this subject, I ask?
It seems like a horrible task.
It’s no fun to ponder, my mind wants to wander
Please give me a swig from a flask.

There are millions of words to choose from,
I think that this one is dumb.
There must be one better, like “coat” or “red sweater”,
But to “snap” I must surely succumb.

I know there are those who agree
But to you I am stating my plea;
Please choose another like “Dad” or “Big Brother”
I’m not fond of this trite potpourri.

A number of words come to mind,
To miss them you’d have to be blind,
Adjectives and synonyms and adverbs and homonyms
There are so many choices and kinds.

The Bible’s a good place to start
From it there’s no need to depart.
There are topics galore, and you’ll never need more
Than the Word to its listeners impart.

I don’t mean to hurt or offend,
The chooser could well be a friend,
I don’t need a foe, and I want you to know
That this poem indeed I will send.

I’m looking to next week with trust
A topic that’s fitting a must.
Please take time to think and discern with a wink
That whatever you choose will be just.

You have creative way of grumbling.
I find the 'different' topics a true challenge. I like the task of thinking of the different ways that word is used. You don't have to write about the game...or the theme...but anyway that word or thought can be used.
Hopefully, you'll face the upcoming topics with expectation instead of dread.
