Title - The Games Master:
As children we played many games mostly mere foolish entertainment. I can imagine truth or dare with Archie and the gang would go something like this:
“Truth or dare Archie,” all cry. “Truth,” he replies.
Jughead, as games master, asks Archie, “Is it true that you spent last night with Betty,”
“I can’t say,” Archie says, fearing the jealousy of Veronica.
“Then you must take the dare. I dare you to give Madge a passionate kiss.”
Archie obliges because he secretly has always wanted to. Next thing we see Archie with two black eyes that Big Moose has planted on him.
The only thing is that, in the game of life, things are far more serious and Satan the games master, always plays to win. Could he lose?
Now, just thirty years of age, Jesus of Nazareth chose to follow the path his father, God, had designed for him. He went to Jordan, where his cousin John was calling all men to repent and prepare for the coming Kingdom of God.
He asked to be baptised as a sign of his submission to God’s will. Coming up out of the water the sky burst open and a dove flew down and sat on him. John told those watching that this was a sign that God had promised him so that he would know the Messiah had come.
Baptised by John and filled with the Spirit,Jesus was driven into the wilderness, where he went without food or water for forty days. He was hungry when the Devil came to him with his game.
“If it’s true that you are the Son of God, prove it by commanding these stones to become bread.”
“No, the Scriptures declare, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ His word is truth.”
“Come with me. The game is not over yet,” with these words the Devil took Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple. As they looked down the temple was filled with worshipers going to and fro as they worshipped the Father. They were very busy and their minds were on the promises of God.
“I dare you too throw yourself down from here. Don’t the Scriptures say, ‘God will give His angels instructions to keep you so that you will not dash your foot against stone?’ What a dramatic way to demonstrate the truth to these people.”
Jesus answered, “The Scriptures say, ‘You must not put your God to the test.’
After this the Devil took Jesus to a high mountain and showed him the kingdoms of the world in a flash. “Do you see all these’” he declared, “They are mine, all mine. I won them in a game in Eden and today all men serve me. If you will just bow down and acknowledge my dominion I will give them all to you.
“God’s word declares, “You must worship the lord your God and Him alone. I will never bow down to anyone but the Father.”
The Devil left him with these words, “I’ll be back.”
