For long years I walked in darkness;
The face of God was hid from me;
All my seeking was half hearted;
Through log-jammed eyes, I couldn’t see.

While I floundered God was faithful,
In all my wandering He was there;
Though in His sight, my life was hateful,
He watched o’er me with loving care.

Though God was hid, ‘twas not His doing;
His evidence was everywhere;
The lifestyle I was hard pursuing
Made me so blind and unaware.

He sent His saints to intercept me
In my free-falling downward spin,
His chosen vessels to protect me,
And lead me safely home to Him.

Through faithful preaching I repented,
His Holy Spirit entered in,
The godly things I once resented
Were precious now through life in Him.

The Faithful Shepherd sought and found me
When I was lost and far from Him;
He put His loving arms around me;
I never will be lost again.
