Topic: fathers (06/06/05)
The prayers of a daughter for the salvation of her father are beautiful words to hear. I would like to tell you a bit about a daughter who wants more than anything for her father to meet me.

She was not particularly close to him over the years, but now that she is an adult, I see that she wants to get to know him better in hopes of drawing him closer to Christ. It is evident that she endeavors to live a life before him that is pleasing to her Lord. I also see her deep-seated fear of saying or doing something that will prevent him from coming to a personal relationship with my Son.

I use my still small voice to speak to the heart of a father who is a good man on the outside. Honestly, his behavior is more pleasing to me than that of many whom I call my sons. However, no one will spend eternity in my presence without calling upon Jesus. I need to open his eyes to the truth of his need for a Savior.

As I hear her plead with me on behalf of her father, I hold her in my arms. I catch her tears and place them in a special bottle. The truth is that one bottle cannot even contain them all. If her tears could bathe him and make him clean before me, I would pour this collection of tear-filled bottles over him and allow them to saturate him to the core of his soul to make him spotless. Her tears cannot save him, however, for only the blood of Jesus can accomplish that work in him.

I realize that my work is not obvious to her. She cannot see how many times I have asked him if he will agree to meet me. I have worked tirelessly to invite him into eternal life.

I hear her pleas and I feel with her the anguish in the deepest part of her being. I peer into her heart and I see that she would offer her life if it would cause her father to call upon Jesus. Her intense desire runs as deep as her human heart allows. It is not possible for her to fathom that my longing to meet her father goes even deeper. We both want him to be with us forever.

After years of countless invitations, her father finally says yes and it is a glorious meeting. To see him face to face is such a joyful occasion that it will forever be in my memory. Now that we have introduced ourselves to each other, we will be together always.

Her anguish disappears as she hears of our meeting. Tremendous relief and happiness beyond words take its place. The deep burden of her heart may now give way to a joy deeper than she has ever known.

The praise and thanksgiving of a daughter for the salvation of her father are beautiful words to hear. This is what has mattered most to her all along and now she is rejoicing that her two fathers have met.

Beautiful creative imagery. One can picture Father God looking down on father and daughter and longing to answer her prayers. One can also feel the Fathers longing to make Himself known to the father.
