We all have them but we may not recognize them.
We all have them but we may not use them.
Do you know what your gift(s) is/are? We are made in the image of God and God is very gifted. Let’s take a quick look at God’s gifts to see what he might have given us.
Look at His creation – the work of his hands. He was a builder - an architect. All things fit together perfectly.
Get a sense of his organizational skills. After creating the universe he delegated the responsibility of naming the animals to Adam.
Can you hear his musical ability? He shared it with the stars.
As an author, he had his scribes write the perfect book – the Bible.
As a chemist, he not only created the elements but fashioned so they can fit together to form all physical things.
As a farmer, landscape designer and naturalist, we know of his handy work in The Garden of Eden.
How about his interest in the ocean? We marvel at what he put into the seas.
But what about math, is he gifted here? How about this? The very hairs on your head are numbered.
(I’d like to say here he is the mother to nature but he is the Father of mankind.)
One other gift I will mention is the gift of giving. “For God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Even though we are made in God’s image, we will not posses all the gifts that God is gifted with. We can see from an example in the book of Exodus that God sometimes gives an abundance of one or more gifts to certain individuals.
Ex. 35:26 says, “And all the women whose heart stirred with a skill spun the goats’ hair.” They had been given the gift of being a woman but also the gift of spinning yarn. This was a God given skill developed through practice.
Read about the gifts that were given to Bezalel in Ex. 35:30-35. He was filled with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding and in knowledge and in all craftsmanship to make designs for working in gold and in silver and in bronze, and in cutting stones and in the carving of wood so he could perform every inventive work. He also put within him the heart to teach.
We may not be this gifted but we can be grateful, though, for what he has passed on to us.
Do you recognize and use the gifts God has given to you or do you try to be something you shouldn’t be? Your life will be most happy and satisfying when you find your gifts, develop them and use them.
To parents I say this. Do not push your children into areas that God has not gifted them. They may, through training and practice, be able to do something or be something but if it is not what God has gifted them in; they will not be happy or truly successful. Encourage a broad education and provide a wide range of experiences that your children may find and develop their own God given gifts.
