I was stunned, then deeply depressed.
Please understand... Michael was my first true love, my heart's desire, my everything. I didn't know how I could live without him.
I just shut down. I stopped goin' anywhere, except to the store to get food. I stopped callin' everyone--my family...especially my friends.
I stopped goin' to church.
But--thank God--my best friend Brenda never stopped reachin' out to me:
her encouragement literally saved me.
Brenda kept callin' and left tons of messages on my voicemail.
"Hey Brittany--please pick up the phone, girl-friend!"
"Hey girl, wha's up? I know you're there!"
"Okay, that's it. I'm comin' over, so get ready!"
I was holed up in my bedroom watchin' the end of the 1998 movie 'Titanic' for the second time that day. Even though it was early afternoon on a Saturday, I had the shades pulled down--the darkness matched the emptiness I felt in my heart. The movie was a metaphor of my life: a disaster happened, and now my life was over. I just wept as I watched the Rose character say goodbye at the end--
Oh God, how I could relate to her...
Bam-bam...BAM-BAM-BAM....Brenda was at the front door.
"Go away...leave me alone..." I mumbled, clutching a rose-colored box of tissues.
Brenda wouldn't let up--she felt she HAD to see me.
Finally I gave up, got up and let her in. She ignored the mess in my house, kitchen, bedroom...and the mess I must've looked. She sat down and lovingly told me she missed me.
We hugged.
She insisted on taking me to a Christian concert that night.

In tears, the lead singer stepped up to the microphone, and spoke with an Australian accent, "A couple-a weeks ago, the Lord led me to re-write the lyrics of the theme song from the 'Titanic' movie. We've practiced it several times; and after we finished prayin' jus' now, God ask'd us to sing it t'night. This is for someone here..."
I wept unashamedly, from the first anointed note...
Every night in my dreams,
I see you. I hear you,
That is how I know and go on--
I recall the instant
In True Love You saved me--
I have come to grow and go on.
Near, far, wherever You are,
I believe that my heart does go on--
Once more You open the door,
And You're here in my heart
And my heart will go on with God...
God can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime,
And never let go till we're One:
Love is when God loves you
With True Love --I hold to--
That is how I know and go on--
Near, far, wherever You are,
I believe that my heart does go on--
Once more You open the door,
And You're here in my heart
And my heart will go on with God...
There is True Love that will not go away
You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on--
We'll stay forever this way:
Lord, You're safe in my heart,
And my heart will go on with God....

Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we're one
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
There is some love that will not go away
You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
