There I was and I couldn’t move. I started yowling for help. I put up a real fuss. You do not want to hear me when I am in that frame of mind. It’s not a pretty sound. You’d think I was dying the way I was carrying on. I kept it up. I had no choice, really. I was feeling uncomfortable and didn’t want to stay in this stuck position any longer than necessary.
My owner soon came to where I was, hanging from the sliding screen door. “Isabelle,” she crooned, “how did you manage to do this?
Listen lady, my pride is already damaged enough. How do you think I feel being an agile cat who suddenly lost her agility? Embarrassed, that’s how!
My owner kept on speaking to me in soft tones, all the while extracting my claw from where it had gotten snagged in the mesh wiring. Yeah, one measly claw stuck, I had to hang on for dear life with all my other claws. It wasn’t that hard, really. My yowling must’ve worked because my owner was telling me how pitiful I sounded.
As soon as she had me free, she petted me a bit, but then her voice changed. She scolded me. Have you ever seen a cat blush? Well, I think I was embarrassed enough that I was probably blushing (imagine, a cat blushing). You just don’t know the humiliation I was feeling. It was awful. I squirmed and hissed, putting my claws out. That made her set me down in a hurry.
I walked off with the best swagger I could muster, my tail straight up in the air. See if I’ll attempt that trick ever again. I thought it was cool. However, with no appreciation for my feat, why should I try again? Cats of the world beware, your best bet is to just lay low and be the docile pet your owners want you to be. This will be my creed from now on. I refuse to be embarrassed like that again.
I’m going to go curl up in a sunbeam now and nurse my wounded, embarrassed pride. I might just sharpen my claws after that. Who knows when I might break my creed? My claws need to be ready so I won’t have the embarrassment of getting stuck again.
Moral: Cats of the world unite and don’t let yourself get caught in embarrassing situations.
