Unsung warrior, in isolation, so alone
In the midst of life’s dangerous jungle
His prayer shoots the heavens with arrows of light
Exerting a most tedious struggle.
Fearless and dauntless his hidden attacks
On man’s most formidable foe
His effort, protected from praises of man
In obscurity dealing terminal blows.
A price that is costly with no earthly reward
The prayer warrior stands valued and chosen;
So few who are willing to stand in the gap
As proxies to unfreeze the frozen
In ashes and sackcloth, abstaining from food
The soul humbled so the spirit may reign:
Singing praises to God to come into His throne
Seeking advantage to God’s closest vein.
Groaning and wailing in the midst of travail
As he weeps for man’s sin and discretions
A referee, pleading and appealing to God
As he yields to intense intercession.
Determined to press in with face set like flint
Till the storms break and the clouds disappear
And God’s rainbow of promise shatters the night
Persevering prayer reaching God’s faithful ear.
