He was treated cruelly, beaten, and shamed,
when something went wrong it was him to blame.
No empathy given, just a slap or punch,
no dinner or breakfast, and he stole his lunch.
A spark within him smoldered for years,
till one day it lit, combusting with fear.
He turned to the bottle, tried to douse it out,
the flames danced higher, sparks snapped about.
People kept quiet knowing of the shame,
they too were afraid of his out of control flame.
A raging bonfire, everyone stayed clear,
he snapped and roared intoxicated with beer.
Sickly with no hope he turned to use dope,
he tried almost everything just trying to cope.
Death was drawing dangerously near,
and the pain he felt was a burning sear.
A careless act, put behind bars,
for two long years he was denied the stars.
While he sat mad with tears,
a stranger approached to settle his fears.
There is one man who really does care,
one who gave his life to spare.
Even to someone as wretched as him,
the darkness grew lighter, someone died for him.
From days to weeks, to months to years,
this sad wicked man opened his eyes and ears.
A spark inside him started to smolder,
a new life began, the old one was over.
The more he read the more he heard,
the flames grew higher, he drank every word.
The man who was once a raging fire,
was fanning the flames of an other desire.
