Looking back over my life, I can see time and time again, the myriad of ways in which my family and I have been ‘given’ what we need, at the time of greatest need.
There was the time when I was six, and my mother had no money left to buy bread or milk, and nothing to make our dinner with. That afternoon a young man came to our door selling books. Mum explained our situation, and told him she would not be able to buy a book that day.
Ten minutes later, the young man returned, accompanied by an older gentleman. They explained that they were Christians, and felt God was leading them to give Mum the money they had earned that day. It was enough to feed us until my Dad’s next paycheque arrived.
Then there was the time when, heavily pregnant with our fourth child, my husband and I were beginning to despair of finding a vehicle to fit our growing family into. We finally found the perfect one. A beautiful silver, seven-seater Kia Carnival. Unfortunately, it was four thousand dollars more than we could afford. The next weekend we looked in the paper and discovered the price of ‘our’ car had been reduced by … you guessed it, four thousand dollars. Our son was born two days after we took possession of the vehicle.
Of course, I couldn’t write this piece without mentioning the time, six months ago, when I was sinking into depression. I had lost all sense of who ‘I’ am, and felt as though I had nothing of worth to offer to the world. As a result of a passing comment by a friend, I decided to do something just for me. I began an Internet search for writing courses. That’s when I discovered Faith Writers.
Since then, I have been encouraged to renew my interest in writing and I am beginning to see that there may be more to me than just ‘the wife’ or ‘the mother’. I have also discovered a whole new family of writers who are helpful, fun, caring, encouraging and who have been such a blessing to me.
I look back at my life, and I know God cares for me.
