When I was a young man my list of desires included: a cute girl, a fast car, a pickup truck, woods to hike in and a log cabin by a lake full of big, fat bass. My thoughts of spiritual things were nearly nonexistent. I believed God was a crutch for weak minded people. But still I searched. I pretty much dared God to prove Himself to me. To my surprise He took me up on the challenge and brought me to my knees and to a place where I happily cried “Okay! I need a crutch and I want You to carry me! I AM weak.” I found a desire I didn’t know I was looking for. Okay He found me. All the same the skies were bluer, the grass was greener. I had found “the Desire of the nations*.”
The fast car came and went. The cute girl came along about the same time as the pickup truck. Four kids and sixteen years later the cute girl went too but was kind enough to leave the four kids with me. So I found myself living my childhood dream: a houseful of kids and no wife. Of course I had grown up enough to not want no longer have that desire. “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” was only a TV show.
My desires for the most part have remained with a few new ones added and others just altered a bit. I desire for my kids above all that they know the Lord. Also I desire them to be as happy, safe and successful as life will allow.
For me I desire to walk with The Lord the way Enoch did. I desire to see Him, to hear Him, to know Him better than I know myself. Of course I want to do that out of a small log cabin by a lake full of big, fat bass.
* and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, F3 and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the Lord of hosts. Haggai 2:7 NKJ
