The world is so manic.People don't even know they are rushing around, let alone the reason. In traffic queues, the cars behind are sounding their horns impatiently, when they can plainly see the hold up,and must know that they won't be going anywhere for the moment-neither are they getting anywhere by making enemies and winding themselves up needlessly.Alot of anger is built up from the illusion that we must always be on the move, which drives impatience, causing fury, and so on.
Why are we always in a rush to get nowhere in particular?Could it be that the vision of our society and what it has become is so unseemly, that we simply(or partly)cannot bear to be in the moment-that we blindly rush from the 'here and now'into the 'soon and later',thinking-hoping-surely 'then'must be better than 'this'.
Of course, many people are genuinely in a hurry, especially if their work is hectic. But overall, the world seems to be trying to burn itself out in one or more ways.
I feel bad and frustrated for those who don't know Jesus,or think they wouldn't want to-those who have had a brief opportunity to listen to the message, but have been swayed by embarrasement, hear say,and worldly opinions, without having had a chance, really,to wonder at all. Those people are part of the world, and 'in it'.The world is all they know, and all there is for them. For them, choices are few,and many aims in life are competetive, greed driven, and anything left of a cheerful and generous heart is likely to be stamped out.
Jesus told us that He is not of the world, and that worldly ways are not the same as His.Because Jesus is our vision,we can take ourselves out of our worldly ruts, and almost visualise ourselves above the earth, which,in God's eyes must be really small, with each of us smaller than a lepton.By rising above,we can see the big picture and compare it to the size of our daily stresses.By talking and listening to God in quality time,it can help put priorities in perspective, and the 'big picture experience'can bring a sigh of relief to realise once more that God is in control, and this world is certainly not all there is!
We have a duty,as witnesses to help others to see this vision, and we can start,by becoming a living example of our love for Jesus Christ.
The world seems to have smothered the miricle of God's love,by displaying a hum drum place of despair-where true happiness, meaning and purpose are unlikely pipe dreams. For example,i find it hard to imagine the second coming of Jesus, whilst watching a soap opera, after eating a big mac on the way home from the supermarket! Yes,it's a challenge, holding on to a vision that is so far from what we also see with our eyes.
Tv plays a large part in disillisionment. It seems to be giving out a secret impression that 'this is how it is,how people are, this is your world-your reality.'T.v instantly severs us from the reality of 'here and now',creating all kinds of desires, comparisons, unrealistic assumptions, false judgements, which then, can prompt jealousy, greed, and fears with self loathing.I doubt the inventer of t.v foresaw the ammount of power it would have now.(there are of course, good things about it,such as world updates and information)
So,life is not as the world portrays it.It is certainly not how we each percieve it,and it is never as it seems. The only way to a clear vision,is to make Jesus our vision. He alone is truth, and only through looking to Him can we get a clear mind, heart and soul.Jesus is our vision of truth.
