“It is here waiting on you,” said the Lord.
“I know where it’s at. I need a better paying job. Yes, that’s it. With more money I will be joyful again.”
“I can tell you that won’t help.” The Lord told her.
Hannah found a new job that paid very well. She was excited to have accomplished so much. Joy filled her each time she received her paycheck.
“I have no joy,” said Hannah.
“Oh, what about your new job?” asked the Lord. “You seem to enjoy having so much money.”
“ I was sure I would find my joy by making more money, but the joy did not last.”
“I still have your joy here.” Said the Lord.
“I know what I need. Someone to share the money with. I believe I need a boyfriend. Yes, having someone to love will bring me joy.”
The Lord whispered, “that is not the type of joy you are looking for.”
Hannah turned her attention to finding a boyfriend. Soon she was dating Scott and she was filled with unbridled joy.
“Where is my joy?” Hannah cried.
“Right here waiting for you to take it,” replied the Lord.
“There was some joy in the money I had and with Scott, but it was short lived with both. What am I missing?”
The Lord reached for her heart; “you are missing me.”
“My friend Sarah always seems to be happy. Even in hard times she has peace. What does she have that I don’t?”
“She has me.”
Hannah went to speak with Sarah.
“Sarah, I can’t find real joy. I thought having lots of money would bring me joy, but it didn’t. I thought Scott would bring me joy, but he didn’t. What else is there?”
“Have you thought about God?” Sarah asked.
“How will God bring me joy? What can he give me?”
“Salvation and everlasting life, things that money can’t buy and others can’t give you.”
“Is that what you have Sarah?”
“Yes, and my joy is complete it will not fade away.”
Then Hannah heard a still voice. “I have your joy.”
Turning to Sarah she asked, “Will you tell me more?”
