Blending with graffiti on the fouled alley walls.
I’m shouting, too. One discordant note in a shrieking din.
Meth, blow, crank. They taunt me.
I’ve become meaningless, chained to a squalid mattress.
Willfully violated.
Blessed are the pure.
And what of me? What of me?
I’m lost, afraid. Come find me, Lord.
My soul longs for fulfillment.
Let there be rejoicing in the presence of your angels this day.
I cry in the darkness.
Blood dripping from my swollen lip, my blackened eye.
I’m hurting. Twisted every way in frantic distress.
This is my own doing… abandoned by self.
I’ve become a vapor. Without merit, substance.
Inconsequential
Let she who is without sin…
That’s not me. That’s not me.
I’m desperate, seeking. Come help me, Lord.
My spirit longs for fulfillment.
Let there be rejoicing in heaven over me this day.
I’ve met you before.
You, in that polished car and church clothes.
I watched your wife buying truffles as you propositioned me.
I’m worth more than twenty bucks.
Or at least I thought so.
Don’t you understand anything?
Go unto all the world…
But not to me? Not to me.
I’m suffering, disillusioned. What happened, Lord?
My heart cries for fulfillment.
Leave the others, light your lamp. Seek me once again this day.

Or at least I thought so."
Excellent piece of writing! It is good to look through the eyes of one on the other side.
