It was on a beautiful fall day when she began a new job at the New Physicians Health Building. She loved the fresh beginning of a new job; with her old job several months cold. Thank goodness, she thought, for Sheila. Her old friend, Sheila talked to the manager and gave her a good reference as nurse’s aide; a job she worked several years ago. However, that old job didn’t work out and she left under a cloud of suspicion. But, that was then; this is now. Another beginning, another chance; or so she hoped.
She ended her first day on the job well and the happiness of it all made the long drive home, pleasant and hopeful. She pulled into the driveway exhausted but glad to be home. Being single made it easy at the end of a day. No dinner to rush into, no children to attend to—just her and the TV. Tonight she would relax, watch the "old tuber" for awhile and then go to bed.
She always took a shower at night and tonight would be no exception. The warm fluid washed away any leftover tension of the day and the evening was ending calm and smooth.
After the shower and putting on her nightclothes she sat in her comfortable recliner and began to flip through the channels. Something odd happened was happening while going through the channel selections.
What she saw on the TV and every channel she flipped to, was an obnoxious TV announcer crying: “Miranda…Oh, Miranda…I know you’re there! Started a new job, eh? How many times have you done that in the last 10 years?”
It was most irritating and strange but try as she might, she couldn’t get rid of the image and, for the life of her, she couldn’t stop looking at it…
Finally in desperation, she turned off the TV, shoved it out of her mind as something stupid and unusual and did some reading.
Later she went to bed. Right before she dozed off, she looked up to the ceiling and saw---the same announcer shouting....”You can’t escape me, Miranda! I’ll be here in your face until you stay with a job that lasts more than a year…Do you hear me?!”
In a raspy but startled voice she replied…”Alright, already! I’ll do it. Now,would you mind leaving me alone?!
Well, once again her new job didn’t work out and after receiving a severance pay she doggedly went home. What she found as she opened her door startled her. For in the living room she saw that irritating man who appeared to her on TV and on her ceiling..He was standing right in the middle of the room, arms across his chest and kept repeating over and over in a loud and stern voice....."I'm staying with you, Miranda, until you get it right!!"
