TITLE: A Lazy Afternoon | Previous Challenge Entry

"Get what?"
"People tend to move around too much. Why can't they stay in one place?"
It was late afternoon, the day had been hot and the two basked in the lazy rays that filtered through the trees in the park. Dogs were taking their afternoon stroll while parents watched over their children playing in the playground. The two love watching people at play, families spending time together and nature celebrating the joy of each waking day. Best friends for life, you could say that the two were both born on the same day.
"Why can't people stay in one place?" repeated Andrew. A twist in the tone of his voice noted that he did not have a straight answer to it.
"Let's think about it. If people stay in one place, then they should be happier?" said David, the shorter of the two (by an inch or two).
"Happier? Hm, men are not easily happy. They tend to be uncertain about their true feelings. Like waves hitting the beach, it comes and goes. Plus, they don't remain happy for long periods of time. No, their moods come and go like the wind. I guess because they are not happy that they tend to move a lot."
"But Andrew, everyone needs to stay put at some place, at point of time. Plant their roots; call it their home, to live life to the fullest. Wouldn't it be the most natural thing to do?"
Andrew managed a half chuckled.
"Home is only a home when a man decides to call it his home. Until that decision is made, it's merely a place to stay." Andrew was now drawing a puzzle look on David's face. Andrew being the wiser (by fact he knew more of the world) was talking in riddles, a way of speech that David enjoyed listening to. Not so much for the answer to their tricky question but rather at how Andrew would answer it.
Andrew's manner of speech came about from his time spent among the Higher Folks. The Higher Folks are those whom discovered the secret to Eternal Life. A secret that is only known to those that choose to seek and lay down their lives for it. These are the ones who speak in riddles, riddles that make the wise men; foolish.
"When would a man call a home, his home?" asked David.
"Home is where their true Father lives." answered Andrew, "It's only when they accept the life that their Father wants to give them, that they are given the keys to His home. Until that time of decision, men will continue to seek our a place to call home, not knowing that home is not a place on earth but rather in heaven." Turning his gaze to David, Andrew continued, "That’s why we celebrate every home-coming, every soul that walks through the pearly gates is precious. Ah, I always enjoy that moment."
David nodded. He saw the logic of Andrew's answer and he knew the truth of those words.
Andrew leaped from their vantage point and landed squarely on the ground. David followed his lead. The two made their way across the field, walked by the playground and towards the footpath. The sun was slowly setting; a glorious gold hue slowly painted it's way across the canvas of nature. Trees, rock and land were magically dyed into a single shade of gold. The two marveled at the glorious sight knowing that in an instant all will be black.
"Man's home is beautiful but his Father's home is glorious in splendor and nature. If he could see that for himself, I guess we'll have too much work on our hands."
David chuckled, "True."
"I would love to stay and chat but I have to go now," said Andrew, "I've got to help out this struggling writer overcome his writer's block. He's been praying about it and the Lord asked me to give some words of encouragement to the poor chap. Seems like he's writing a piece on living in the heavenly home. Probably, I'll whisper to him a bit on what we talked about today."
The two friends shook hands and with a flutter of wings, they were no more. And the day drew to a close, as parents huddled their tired children, masters their pet dogs and nature tucks itself to sleep, everyone to their own shelter, everyone to their own home.
