"Grandpa, why do you have to leave me now? Where is God in all of this?"

"My dear child, do not let your heart be troubled, I am not alone because God is here with me. But let me tell you something.

When I was growing up, I have made many mistakes—I chose the wrong friends and I did things I am not proud of, all of it to impress my friends so that they would like me. But when they left, do you know Who stuck by me and never left me? Who was the one that got me back on track?"

"Who grandpa?"

"God did. But that is not all. Even when I got older when I started running our farm, I often treated people bad, even grandma. I sometimes said hurtful things and when I thought about it afterwards, I wished I could take back my words, but I couldn’t. I often felt bad about the things I did, but you know Who held my hand and showed me what to do? Who taught me the right way without reminding me about the wrongs I have done or even punishing me for it?"

"Who grandpa?"

"God did. He kept reminding me that He loves me—a love that will never fails me. He kept telling me that He will never leave my side; He will always be there no matter what I do. Nothing I do can disqualify me before Him. He showed me how to treat people with His love—through gentleness, patience and love."

"But grandpa, where is He now, why are you so sick and dying? Surely God will not allow this if He was with you."

"My dearest child, even now God is still here. He is giving me the air for my next breath. He is giving me a final opportunity to show you His love, to spend my last precious moments with you—whom I love. I have cancer, but cancer will not have the last say, God will. Now when it is God's time to take me home, He will do so, but I will not be alone. He is holding me in His hand. The day that God leaves me or you alone is the day that pigs might fly."

Touching story that pulled at my heartstrings. This was well written with tender and believable dialogue between the MC and child.

Beautiful job.
God bless~

Yes, God's Holy Spirit that he gives us when we are baptized for the forgiveness of our sin will guide us and help us grow to be the person he wants us to be. Because of his love for us we can have a love for him that will cause us to want to obey his commandments. "If you love me, keep my commandments."

Young people need to be taught to be faithful till death and it may take our example to be that lesson.

Keep writing.
