It seems that each time I find myself in victory over some area in my Christian walk; I begin another trial, usually harder than the previous experience. Thank God there is usually a slight period of heartfelt praise and rest before my next exam. With it comes a backward reflection, wondering “how in the world did I miss this before”?
I’ve also found that if I study hard the test seems much easier and I pass much quicker. I begin my preparation by reading and studying the textbook (Bible). I find that if I drill the teacher (God) with a lot of questions, He (Holy Spirit) will give me the wisdom and knowledge needed to pass each test. It sounds easy enough, but some of the tests are in direct opposition to the desired outcome. Let me use the pride test again as an example. The more I study the Word and spend time doing Christian works, the more I need to resist the temptation to become prideful of my Spiritual walk because of all I have accomplished.
I need not worry if at first I fail because I can always take the test over and over again until I pass. Of course, the benefit of passing is a much deeper understanding of the subject (Jesus). If I study long and hard and practice my profession regularly, I will become an expert (mature Christian).
The first test I took, however, was the most important of all. It was the “Life’s Entrance Exam”, (Salvation). Without passing this test my efforts would be useless to even understand what the other tests were about. My career then began by giving my whole life and ambition to knowing Him (Jesus).
I will continue to take these exams my whole life until I’ve acomplished all I need to fulfill the requirements of my course (mission). Lastly, when I have passed the final exam, I will graduate and enter into real life (eternity).
