“I hear you are on a special assignment.”
Thomas smiled as he looked about noticing the unusual structures and the odd dress of the people hurrying by. “You could say that, Kate.”
“Top secret?”
“Not exactly, the management has transported me back in time to try to determine who Jesus was.”
“Jesus? Of the bible Jesus?”
“That would be the one.”
“Got to go we are about to go on.”
Kate pasted on a smile. “Good morning. We are about to go live to D. Thomas who is on location.
The image on the screen changes . “Good morning. Have you ever wondered who Jesus was? Well I am here at Golgotha where I am told the man is questioned is about to be crucified.”
“Thomas, hasn’t that already happen?”
“Yes, Kate it did in our time but the management has sent me back in time so that I can witness it first hand and report the event to our viewers.”
“Well never let it be said that the management at ISEE scrimps when it comes to our viewers. So Thomas what has happened thus far?”
“Kate let me begin by giving you a back ground on this man called Jesus. He is about thirty two years old and was born in Bethlehem. In addition to his parents; Joseph, a carpenter and Mary, he has several siblings. Until lately He kept a low profile. However recently there have been numerous reports of Him teaching and healing people. And I have to say some have been a little miraculous in nature.”
“What do you mean miraculous in nature Thomas? Can you give us a few examples?”
“Yes, one of the men I interviewed reported seeing a leper approach Jesus then all of a sudden the man’s skin was clear. Another told me that his servant had been really ill but Jesus had healed him. Others have reported him healing two blind men and there is one report of him bringing a young maid back to life. The ones who were present assure me that she was dead but Jesus told them she was just sleeping. He went into the room and minutes later the two of them walked out of the room together. Amazing!”
“Thomas, I hate to interrupt but I remember a story from my childhood about Him feeding a lot of people with only a few fish and some bread. Have you heard anything about that event?”
“Yes, apparently at least twice he has feed a multitude of people with only a few fish and some loaves of bread. There are some, mainly the priest and Pharisees, who say he has socialized with men who do not abide by the laws. There are also reports that He plucked corn and healed on the Sabbath. He was arrested and brought before the high priest where many testified against Him. The man I interviewed said that He didn’t even try to defend Himself just stated something about power which the priest considered blasphemy. So they declared Him guilty and took Him to Pilate, the Governor. “
“The governor offered the people a choice of releasing Jesus or Barabbas another prisoner. The people chose to release Barabbas but wanted Jesus crucified. I am told that Jesus was mocked by the soldiers and even now hangs on the cross with a sign above His head which proclaims Him king of the Jews.”
“So He is on the cross?”
“Yes, He is the one in the middle. The other two crosses contain men arrested as thieves.”
“Thomas, it is still daytime there so why is it so dark?”
“I’m not sure. It has been dark for about three hours. Wait, He is saying something.”
“Kate, He said, Eli Eli Lama sabachthani?”
“What does that mean Thomas?”
“The interpreter said it means, ‘My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me?’ Wait, they are saying it is over. He is dead. Kate I am going to hang around for a few days. Some say that He told them He would return in three days. “
“That was D. Thomas reporting.”
Three days later
“We are back. Thomas do you have anything to report?”
“We are at the tomb and the stone at the entry has been moved and the tomb is empty. He has risen just like He said He would. Kate, I must report that He has been exposed: Jesus is who He says He is. He is the Son of God.”
