I had an urgent feeling
To watch the eastern sky,
A pull to look to heaven
real quick, I knew not why.

But then I saw my Jesus
with arms outstretched so wide,
Arriving on a white cloud
Up in the eastward sky.

To all who heard, He uttered,
“Child, come, now is the time,
Come quickly up unto me
All those who count as mine.”

My feet made not a movement,
I feared the greatest fear,
My heart, oh how it hastened,
My eyes began to tear.

I wasn’t moving upward,
To meet Him in the sky,
My feet, like lead and earthbound,
Would not lift off and fly.

But then I fast remembered
A scripture to the wise,
The dead who are in Jesus
Will be the first to rise.

And then I saw graves open
Those dead were now alive,
With arms uplifted, “Glory!”
They met Him in the sky!

And then the greatest wonder
To ever come my way,
I felt myself lift upwards,
Oh, what a glorious day!

To join Him in the heavens,
Oh, how my soul did sing,
Forever to praise Jesus,
And worship my dear King.

And when we reached the throne room,
My heart could only cry,
“Oh, Beautiful is Jesus,
My Lord and God Most High!”

I looked upon His kind face,
Love filled His blazing eyes,
His nail-scarred hands so precious,
I knew for me He died.

What kind of love can this be?
His blood He shed and gave,
What beauty of forgiveness,
That sinful man be saved!

Before His scarred feet, laying
The crown He’d given me,
My heart full of thanksgiving,
Burst forth with joyful glee.

“Your love is everlasting,
Compassion never fails,
Your mercy, grace, and goodness
O’er ev’rything prevails.

“Oh, Lamb, You are exalted,
And Worthy is Your Name,
Beautiful Rose of Sharon,
Deserving all acclaim.

“I’ll never cease to love You,
Oh, Holy God and King,
Your beauty lights up heaven,
Your praise I’ll ever sing.”

A real joy to read! Thrilling topic! The image of the 'leaden feet' and why they didn't 'lift off' is very creative too! Wonderful poem!

What an inspiring poem. Capturing the fear of one who wanted to go to heaven but thought they were not going--how real. But if we love and serve Him, he will return for us and our bodies will be made beautiful and pure for all eternity! I loved this poem. The words flowed so effortlessly and lovingly:)

Great job! You made me see Jesus in the clouds, feel your concern when you didn't rise immediately, your joy in his presence. This motivated me to praise Him now. Thanks!
