R.S.V.P.

A wedding invitation with an R.S.V.P card, a baby crying in the next room, ring, ring, ring goes the telephone, ding dong goes the door bell. What do all of these things have in common? They all require a response from us. Respond to the R.S.V.P card, check on the crying baby, answer the phone and see who is at the door. Our lives are full of things that require a response from us. Will you marry me? Will you accept the job? Some of our responses are life changing, while others are just part of our daily lives.

There is also a response required of us in the Bible. In Revelation 3:20 we find these words:

“I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with me.” (NKJV)
Christ knocks at the door of our heart awaiting a response from us. There is a popular picture that shows Jesus knocking on a door. This door is unusual because there is no door knob on the outside with which to open it. It can only be opened by the person on the inside. This picture so clearly depicts Christ knocking at the door of our heart, awaiting a response from us.. We are to come to Him on an individual basis. No one can do this for us. Not even belonging to a particular group of people will work.

Every person will make a decision to either accept OR reject Christ. If we believe in Christ and accept Him as our personal Savior, we have accepted His invitation. It is open for all. but requires an individual response.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (NKJV) . If we choose to accept Christ's invitation, we will spend eternity with Him. If we do not make a decision FOR Christ, we are making a decision AGAINST Him.

John 3:18 says,”He who believes in Him is not condemned but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (NKJV)

Apart from Christ we spend an eternity separated from Him. Christ does not send anyone to Hell, it is a personal decision made by the individual. We all have to respond to our personal invitation . He stands knocking at our heart's door. We alone can choose to either open the door and let Him in or to reject Him. The door knob to our heart is on the inside. We must decide whether to open the door or leave it closed.

This is a most important invitation that requires a response. Will you R.S.V.P. today?
